1 year ago I had a non-surgical skin lifting and tightening procedure.
I started to notice some areas of my face had begun to migrate south. My jawline wasn’t as tight as it used to be and I had lines forming around my mouth that weren’t there before. I really wanted some skin tightening and lifting around my jawline and some improvement in the skin firmness around my mouth. There’s only so much good skin care and regular facials can do, so I began to consider my options for treatments that would actually work.
I’m a firm believer that regular anti-ageing preventative treatments (once you’re over 30) will mean you need less done in later years. And by keeping on top of things now, you could avoid wanting a surgical facelift when you’re older.
When considering my options I came across Ultherapy which is one of the most popular non-invasive cosmetic treatments on the market. Loved by celebrities, it’s gained a reputation for giving fantastic skin tightening and lifting, that’s non-invasive with no downtime. Ultherapy uses micro-focused ultrasound energy to stimulate new collagen production, which lifts and tightens the skin.
Ultherapy is a fantastic preventative and can reverse some of the signs of early ageing, meaning that Ultherapy is suitable for both those in their 30’s and also everyone older.
Sadly after the age of 20 collagen production begins to slow down. Collagen is what gives the skin firmness and structure, so as you age you’ll inevitably begin to notice sagging and creasing of the skin. Ultherapy is a great option for anyone who is concerned with wrinkles, sagging around the jawline, heaviness in the brows, and anyone wanting to improve the quality of skin on their neck and décolletage.
By stimulating these deeper layers of skin and muscle (which are exactly where collagen is produced and also the exact area tightened during a surgical facelift) Ultherapy ramps up new collagen production, therefore rebuilding lost collagen and giving a lifted and tightened result.
It’s fantastic because it has proven results, it’s non-invasive, non-surgical, and there is minimal- if any down time. And I know you’re going to ask me if it hurts, so here’s the honest answer… It can feel quite zappy and uncomfortable, particularly in the last half of the treatment, so it is advisable to ask your doctor for some pain medication.
What I will tell you is that any discomfort is 100% WORTH IT when you see your results.
Good things come to those who wait! You begin to see the results from Ultherapy over the next 2-3 months after your treatment. It takes time for the collagen to gradually rebuild and regenerate, which creates a gradual lifting and tightening.
After 3 months I knew I could definitely see a positive change in the lines around my mouth, they look so much better! And I suspected an improvement in firmness around my jawline, which was confirmed when we compared my before and after pictures that were taken.
Dr Lowe also treated my lopsided eyebrows. I’ve always had lopsided brows but with age they’ve gotten worse, so he used Ultherapy to give the lower side a little brow lift.
Here are my before and afters. Before’s are on the left, after’s on the right. You can see a definite lift and tightening of my jawline, and a great improvement in the lines around my mouth.
Other than the face, Ultherapy can also give fantastic results on the neck and décolletage which are notoriously hard to treat areas. It can reduce lines on the neck, tighten and tone the chin and jawline, and lift and tighten the skin on the chest. After doing my research I’ve seen some AMAZING before and afters on the neck and décolletage.
Immediately after your Ultherapy treatment you can get straight back to your usual activities. I looked completely normal with a few slightly red blotches which disappeared within the hour.
After a few days my face was slightly swollen and felt tender, but this was mild swelling that no one else could notice except me.
What I’ve learnt is that it is absolutely imperative that you are having an actual Ultherapy treatment and not a treatment using an inferior system or an inferior ultrasound device. They are out there, but Ultherapy is original, and was recently recognised as the Gold Standard for Skin Lifting and Tightening.
It’s also a must to find a trusted practitioner to have your Ultherapy treatment with. Ultherapy is a system provided by Merz Aesthetics, and theirs is the only system which allows practitioners to use ultrasound to see beneath the skin, this allows them to use their device with extreme accuracy.
There are many celebs who are Ultherapy clients too, Jennifer Anniston says she loves Ultherapy, Natalie Bassingthwaighte openly talks about her love for the treatment, as does Christie Brinkley and a myriad of other A-listers.
As you’ve probably guessed Ultherapy isn’t cheap, it’s an advanced high-end technology with real results. Compared to an actual facelift though it’s much kinder on the purse strings, much less painful, and has zero down time.
At Muse Clinic I had my jawline, cheeks and chin treated which costs $2,500. To treat the upper face at Muse Clinic the cost is $1000, décolletage costs $1200, and the full face, neck and décolletage is $4,500.
You will be asked to go back to your clinic for a 3 month and 6 month follow up to take some ‘after’ pictures. This is something I think is very important, so you can really appreciate your results.
