A cooperative fringe can completely transform a face and is one of the quickest and easiest ways to update your look. When you choose the right shape, a set of bangs can frame your face, make it look slimmer, make you look younger or even make you look more sophisticated.
Unfortunately, fringes can be tricky to maintain and create a lot of frustration when they’ll do anything but sit right. So, to save you the pain and hassle of struggling to style your fringe every morning, we’ve put together an easy guide on how to maintain your fringe.
- Blow dry it straight away
The second your fringe begins to air dry into its natural shape, the harder it is to style and the faster it will fall out of shape when you finally get it to cooperate. Even if you’re letting the rest of your hair air dry, get to work on your fringe as soon as your get out of the shower.
- Blow dry in multiple directions
Blow drying your fringe both up, left and right before setting it into place will help to give your volume and stop it from falling limp and flat against your forehead. For a side swept fringe, blow drying it the opposite way to how it will sit when finished first also helps to create that sweeping shape.
- Use dry shampoo
Dry shampoo will be your best friend for avoiding daily washes as your fringe is going to get oily before the rest of your head. Dry shampoo also helps in creating a bit of volume and getting your fringe to hold its shape. The dry texture you get can do wonders!
- Avoid conditioning or oil-based products
If your fringe is too soft or too slick, it won’t sit right and will quickly look un-styled. Treat it like your scalp when washing and styling and avoid conditioner or wet, frizz-taming products. If you have very textured hair and want a bit of smoothing, choose a pomade or dry conditioner spray instead to reduce moisture.
- Invest in the right tools
A dense, natural bristle round brush is essential in the blow drying steps of maintaining your fringe but you’ll also find the a mini straightener and even old school Velcro hair rollers help you get your perfect shape.
- Get a regular trim
There’s a good chance your fringe is going to grow faster than the rest of your hair because it’s often a lot healthier. A regular trim to keep it’s shape will make it easier to style and prevent it from looking unkept and unruly.
