Your hair is a pretty powerful thing. It has the ability to shape your whole look. It can make a make-up free face look fresh and youthful or a perfectly done face look lack-lustre. It can make you sing with joy and it can make you want to curl up and never leave the house again.
I’ve been lucky enough to experience all this and more thanks to my temperamental hair. If it’s not frizzing up in Summer’s humidity, it’s a wicked combination of oily roots and dry, wind damaged ends in Winter.
That’s where a good hair mask comes in. Just like a mask for your face, a quality hair mask can have a huge impact on the condition of your hair and its long-term health.
When you find the right one, your ends feel softer, stronger and fabulously frizz-free and yes, can even repair your hair to the point that you feel freshly chopped.
I’ve tested a lot of hair masks and treatments in my quest for perfect wash and wear hair; here’s some I think you’ll love…
FOR DRY HAIR
Christophe Robin Hydrating Melting mask is one of my current faves. Why? Because it softens, smoothes and hydrates my hair without weighing it down. It adds much needed shine and leaves my feeling like I’ve jus left the salon.
FOR SERIOUSLY DAMAGED LOCKS
Phyto PhytoKeratine Ultra Repairing Mask
This mask will leave your ends so silky smooth, honestly you’ll be pleasantly shocked! It dances a fine line between feeling freshly cut and feeling like there’s a lot of product in your hair but ensuring you give your head a really good scrub when you wash it out is key to staying on the right side of that line. It’s packed full of two types of hyaluronic acid that work together to target hydration levels deep down inside your hair follicle as well as coating the outer surface to protect it from further damage.
A QUICK FIX
Goldwell Dualsenses Rich Repair 60 Second Treatment
Using this rinse out treatment is like conditioning your hair three times without the time commitment. It works super-fast to tame unruly and dry ends leaving them softer, shiny and clean without any oiliness or leftover product residue. The best part is, you can use it in the shower in place of your regular conditioner for a weekly boost.
FOR YOUR ROOTS
Nu Skin Nutriol Hair Fitness Treatment
It’s safe to say that before using Nu Skin’s Nutriol leave in oil treatment I was a little worried about how my hair would look by the morning thanks to my typically oily roots but I’m glad I gave this a go. It features a unique bi-phase delivery system where a powder is released into the oil when you open it. You then apply it to your washed and towel tried scalp using the drop applicator and can style it normally after massaging it in for a few minutes. After using the treatment a few times my scalp isn’t getting as oily as it was, and my roots are soft, shiny and full of volume.
Franck Provost J’aime My Pure Detox Mask
The same way we use charcoal to soak up impurities on our faces and inside our gut, this charcoal detox mask does the same for your scalp to help re-balance the PH levels and promote healthy hair growth. To be used before you shampoo and condition, the texture of the mask is just like a conditioner and glides onto your scalp easily. Unlike a lot of charcoal hair products, it’s easy to wash out and won’t cause your scalp to go overly dry. It’s perfect if you’ve been experiencing excess oil or want to hit refresh after using a lot of dry shampoo and texturizing sprays.
TO LEAVE IN
A’kin Lavender and Anthyllis Leave-In Conditioner
Enriched with antioxidants, amino acids and organic avocado oil, this leave-in conditioner penetrates deep into your hair strands to enrich them from the inside out. It builds strength in your hair follicles while protecting the outside from further heat damage and environmental aggressors. It’s perfect to put through dry hair between washes and before heat styling to smooth the ends and help treat dryness.
Oblepeikha Siberica Oil Complex for Damaged Ends
Hair oils can be tricky. You need something that will leave your hair nourished without looking slick, and something that dries with your hair without making it feel sticky or crunchy. This oil from Natura Siberica checks all the boxes of the things you need from a hair oil. It contains vitamins, Altai Sea-Buckthorn Oil and Moroccan Argan oil to produce keratin in your locks making them stronger and healthier. It leaves your hair feeling silky smooth and prevents heat styling from over drying your ends.
FOR CURLS
KMS Tame Frizz Curl Leave-in Conditioner
My naturally curly hair has soaked up more than a few products specifically designed for curly hair and not many have lived up to expectations. This leave in conditioner from KMS though, is everything a curly girl with dry ends could need. It’s lightweight so your ends don’t feel weighed down and your curls can form as normal. It’s great at taming frizz and you only need to run a small amount through your ends to give them a bit of shine.
