06 Apr The Pastel Hair Trend

Pastel hair, whether it be a faded tone of pink, purple, blue OR a mix of the rainbow, has been trending massively in the past 2 years and frankly enough, I think it is here to stay. For those of you who aren’t afraid to try something new, pastel hair is a way to trial bold and bright hair colours, but not to the full extent of intensity. Pastel is all about softening those bright colours and letting it fade throughout your hair strands.

I was lucky enough to speak with some of the hair industry’s most respected experts and get their opinion on the pastel hair trend. Keep reading to find out whether it will continue to stay hot throughout the rest of the year.

Anthony Nader, Award-winning hair stylist and owner of Anthony Nader RAW, Surry Hills, feels that the pastel hair look all comes down to the technique and application used to create it. Anthony Nader’s best advice on the trend is that you should “do it so subtly and maybe even ever so slight that it makes people give that second glance to see if that is a pastel hue that you’re featuring.” Anthony also believes that “the more muted and quiet the pastel is, the louder it speaks.”

Lauren McCowan, Creative Director at Haircare Australia & Evo Ambassador views pastel hair as a “forever trend.” She feels that it’s always a good idea to stick to “semi permanent and wash out colours which will let people change their hair often.” Lauren McCowan believes that “pastels are getting brighter and more intense with peaches, apricots and the Pantone predictions of Blorange looking to have a major moment in 2017.”

Another hair expert on the pastel trend bandwagon is Justine Marjan, Celebrity Hairstylist and TRESemmé Ambassador. Giving me some inspirational insight on the trend, she thinks, “what is really important is being true to you. If rainbow pastel hair makes you happy, you go for it!”

Remington Schulz, Pantene Hair Ambassador, has a different opinion and believes that “the pastel trend is becoming less popular because people don’t realise how difficult it is to maintain.” Pastel tones look the best when the colour is always looking fresh and vibrant. Remington says, “in order to keep it this way you need to use specific colour protecting formula’s.

So there you have it, the experts have high hopes for pastel hair and believe it is here to stay.

If you are in need of any inspiration, lets take a look at the celebrities who have rocked the pastel hair trend in the past.

Introducing the pastel hair queen, Kylie Jenner, who has pretty much rocked every colour.

And to all the men out there, if Zayn Malik can rock a pastel pink shade, then so can you!

Nicole Richie absolutely slaying the purple tone.

And last but certainly not least, Hilary Duff, the aqua blue mermaid shade is definitely her colour.

Well ladies and gents, why not take the leap of faith and choose any colour tone of the rainbow. It’s never too late to try new things, and luckily, the pastel hair trend isn’t going anywhere any time soon.
