04 Apr The Natural Powers of Jojoba
I’ve always loved the idea of natural beauty products but I’m a die-hard science and technology aided product kinda gal. So you can imagine my surprise when I reached for a jojoba product for the first time and continued to reach for it night after night since.
So what exactly is jojoba?
If you get confused by the myriad of natural oils and essences available, then you’re not alone. I’ll admit that I’d only heard of jojoba before I tried it and knew little more than the fact it was a natural product that looks like oil but is actually a wax.
It actually comes from the jojoba bean that is a plant native to the Southwestern areas of North America. It was originally used as a form of currency and was highly prized for its plethora of benefits and uses to the skin.
What does it do?
The list is long. Really, really long. Jojoba is antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and hypoallergenic. To get all sciencey on you, it’s molecular structure is really similar to that of the protective oils our skin naturally produces meaning it’s great for soothing, repairing and protecting our skin. Everything from burns to rashes to dermatitis can be calmed and soothed by jojoba.
What’s in it?
Jojoba naturally contains vitamins A, D and E. It’s also full of helpful antioxidants, essential fatty acids omega six and nine that help regenerate skin cells and Docosenol, a saturated fatty acid that is antiviral.
What else can it be used for?
Well, I’m glad you asked. Beyond being great for relieving skin conditions, the natural vitamins in jojoba make it great for treating and preventing wrinkles, fading scars and pigmentation, stretch marks, dry skin, oily skin and age spots. It also makes a great nourishing and protective treatment for your tresses.
Who can use it?
The great thing is that it’s perfect for everybody. Dry skin? Yep! Oily skin? Yep! Pregnant? Yep!
Because it’s 100% natural, there’s minimal chances of side effects or bad reactions from anyone’s skin (but of course, there’s always that one in a million).
The products to buy
This golden oil-like was is 100% jojoba. It boasts every benefit mentioned above and it’s made in Australia. Does it get better?
The hydrating, plumping, soothing and regenerative powers of this cream are really something else. It’s packed with jojoba, hyaluronic acid, shea butter, vitamin E and plenty of other goodness. For something that is 100% natural, I was seriously impressed after using it for only a week. It’s coming up to two months later and I still reach for it every night.
This gradual bronzing cream contains a bunch of nourishing oils and ingredients with jojoba being one of them. The jojoba works to ensure your skin is calmed, hydrated and looking amazingly glowy whilst you build a natural looking tan.
Although I’d typically recommend a chemical exfoliant, this is a great choice for die-hard lovers of scrubs. It’s super gentle to buff away dead skin and boasts hydrating, brightening, soothing and repairing properties thanks to the addition of jojoba.
