The Best Body Scrubs for Smooth Limbs

I don’t know about you but exfoliating my face and décolletage is my favourite step of my skincare routine and often the one I am most diligent about. There’s nothing like the feeling of smoothing moisturiser over a freshly exfoliated face or having your makeup sit perfectly without a flake of dry skin in sight.

Unfortunately, I’m not quite as diligent when it comes to exfoliating the rest of my body despite the myriad benefits it offers. If, like me, you need a bit more encouragement and motivation to stick to a regular body exfoliating routine, here’s a few reasons why your limbs will thank you…

It prevents acne – There’s nothing like a build-up of dead skin cells to clog your pores and cause spots and pimples and your back is particularly susceptible.

It helps with stretch marks – Not only will the appearance of stretch marks be heightened by dry skin, keeping your limbs exfoliated and moisturised can help to prevent stretch marks as your skin stretches and contracts during pregnancy, weight gain or loss.

Your skin will absorb other products better – When the skin on your body goes dry, it commonly goes tough and loses elasticity making it very hard for other products like moisturisers or oils to be absorbed. Regular exfoliation keeps it soft and more open to absorbing other products.

It fades sun damage – One Summer too many on the beaches of Europe without sunscreen has taken a toll on my shoulders and they’re pretty freckly as a result. Luckily, the same principles that apply to exfoliating your face apply to the rest of your body and regularly sloughing away that top layer of skin can help fade your freckles.

It prevents ingrown hairs – Regular exfoliation before shaving stops hairs getting caught underneath tough skin as they’re growing and keeps the follicles open for hair to grow freely. You’ll get a closer shave and no bumps, redness or irritation.

So now that you’re convinced, here’s the body exfoliators you should try…

Crabtree & Evelyn Rosewater and Pink Peppercorn Hydrating Body Scrub

This would have to be my current favourite body scrub. With hydrating ingredients like Rosewater it nourishes the skin, while at the same time removing dead skin and impurities. The pink peppercorn stimulates the skin which can help improve firmness. This one smells divine and will have you look forward to your next body exfoliation.

Kiehl’s Gently Exfoliating Body Scrub

It’s not as rough as other options and is loaded with Aloe Vera and Chamomile to sooth your skin as it works at preventing redness or irritation. The grapefruit scent is very refreshing and creates an invigorating experience for your whole body.

Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish

This sugar based scrub is for women looking for a rougher, more abrasive scrub. It’s much more granulated than others giving a really satisfying feeling as your scrub it all over. It’s also very moisturising thanks to the addition of oils, jojoba and sweet almond.

Clinique Sparkle Skin Body Exfoliating Treatment

Due to its price this one is best used just on really dry areas such as the knees, elbows and ankles to slough away dead skin and soften your skin. Just one use leaves your skin feeling smooth and there’s no oily residue which is perfect if you’re getting dressed or even tanning straight away.

Skinstitut Glycolic Scrub 14%

Although it’s designed for your face, I love to use this one across my shoulders and upper back to target ‘bacne’ and those freckles I mentioned earlier. You get the added benefit of glycolic acid to chemically exfoliate as you scrub away dead skin giving you a really deep refresh.
