24 May The Best Beauty Looks from the Met Gala
It’s the biggest red carpet of the year and while most eyes are on the fashion masterpieces that the world’s most famous names are wearing, our eyes are on their faces. Yes, the Met Gala is consistently the most anticipated event of the year and while the fashion may be Avant Garde, the beauty looks serve as inspiration for some of the most popular trends for the year to come.
From creative colour combinations to graphic eyes and lustful lip colours, we took a look at our favourite hair and makeup looks from this year’s Met Gala and how you can get the look at home.
She was at the top of just about every publications best dressed list and her makeup was just as impressive. From her signature blonde locks being swept up into a tousled bun to her berry pink lip that looks perfectly lived in, there’s nothing to not love. She kept her eyeshadow particularly on trend opting for burgundy tones with lashings of mascara for a colourful statement eye. Urban Decay’s Naked Heat palette is a go-to for warm red tones to get the look for yourself. The key is to concentrate the colour in the middle of your lid and to blend outward to avoid going overboard.
A touch of metallic always works, but when it’s paired with flawlessly glowing skin, a nude glossy lip and just a lick of mascara, you get a look that’s equally youthful as it is sophisticated. Note Bella’s understated brow that keeps her look really natural and paired back. To recreate it for yourself, mix a liquid illuminator in with your foundation and use a white eyeliner topped off with a gold metallic eyeshadow such as Dior’s 5 Couleurs Heat Up palette, concentrating it in the inner corner of your eye.
We’re betting there’s a few brides who have bookmarked images of Jasmine Sanders gorgeous floral threaded braid. Red roses and gold twine were used to create a Dolce and Gabbana-esq look with hints of a Roman princess from biblical times. Your local craft store will have some pretty convincing flower options to choose from along with the gold twine, that you can weave into your braid. To up the drama on your do, add some clip-in hair extensions to give your braid extra body and length.
She’s typically synonymous with a more risqué beauty look, particularly with her ever evolving hair, but Rita Ora’s Met Gala look was fresh, youthful and perfectly wearable day-to-day. Her softly bronzed smokey eye was created using a Pat McGrath palette and the look was finished off with a pop of pink colour. The best part is, you can get the exact shade of lipstick she chose for a little more than a tenner. Being the face of the brand, Rita Ora naturally went with a Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour in Heartbeat.
She went monotone in the truest sense of the word with her fresh and girly look matching her eyes to her lips, blush and even her hair. The fairy floss pink tones paired with Hailey’s naturally perfect complexion and a subtle contour on her cheekbones creates an ethereal look that’s soft, romantic and very wearable. Try Charlotte Tilbury’s K.I.S.S.I.N.G lipstick in ‘The Duchess’ for your lips and if you dare, you can temporarily steal Hailey’s hair look with L’Oreal Paris’ Colorista Wash Out Pink Hair.
