21 Jul The Beauty of Mineral Make-Up
Mineral powder foundation is one of the most underrated beauty products.
Often ignored because the application method is different, and it’s a powder consistency, mineral powder has a multitude of benefits that you should know about.
I’m currently using Youngblood mineral powder foundation for weekends, workouts, and in hot weather, and the Youngblood liquid mineral foundation day to day.
It Won’t Clog The Skin
Mineral foundation is the only type of foundation that won’t clog your pores. The molecules won’t penetrate the skin, therefore mineral foundation will never cause breakouts or blockages like most other foundations do.
Mineral powder foundation can give you anywhere from a light to heavy coverage. You start with one layer (light coverage) and build it to your desired coverage. If you know you like a heavy coverage, you can dampen your brush which will pick up more product and give you a heavy coverage straight away.
Be aware that mineral powder isn’t like traditional makeup powder. It won’t give you a dry, cakey look like traditional powders do. Mineral powder is a more radiant finish. Immediately after you apply it, it may be more matte than you’d like, but give it 20 minutes and it will absorb the natural oils from your skin and look radiant!
It Won’t Cause Irritation
Mineral foundations are made of completely natural ingredients and in most cases they contain only 1 0r 2 ingredients- mica and possibly zinc oxide which means they won’t irritate even the most sensitive skin. Some may contain traces of one or two other minerals which is completely normal.
It Covers Redness
Mineral Powder foundation in particular conceals redness with ease. It’s rare that foundation can counteract redness so easily. It’s perfect for rosacea or acne sufferers as it won’t further irritate or clog the skin but it will cover the redness effectively. Furthermore it will last all day so you won’t need to worry about multiple touch ups.
Mineral make up has an astonishing ability to evenly disperse oil from the skin across the face. So you will never end up with an oily T-zone, the oil will absorb evenly across the face. Consequently your makeup will last all day, even in stinking hot weather!
Another bonus is that it’s perfect for exercise. Sweat and regular foundation can be a problematic combination for the skin, often resulting in blackheads, bumpy skin or breakouts. However, mineral foundation does not penetrate the skin, so if you like a bit of coverage while you work out, then mineral foundation is the perfect option.
How To Apply It
- Mineral Powder foundation is applied with a kabuki brush (short, round fat brush). You apply it in circular motions, buffing it into the skin. As I previously mentioned you can build coverage by layering the product. Overly sensitive skins may be too stimulated by the buffing action of the brush, in which case I’d recommend using a damp beauty blender or sponge to dab across the face.
- Mineral Liquid foundation can be applied like any other liquid foundation- with a brush, a sponge or your fingertips!
Good quality is paramount when buying mineral foundation. Some cheaper products contain talc which is known to be bad for the skin. The cheaper brands may also contain other filler ingredients which make it less effective, less natural, more reactive and drier on the skin.
Make sure you buy a good brand.
Youngblood is a great brand. It’s cruelty free, paraben free, talc free, fragrance free and reasonably priced.
Youngblood Mineral Powder Foundation $79.95. Youngblood powders contain quality ingredients and the colour range is excellent. It has very long staying power which is great for exercise or hot weather.
Youngblood Liquid Mineral Foundation $79.95 is an instantly dewy looking foundation which gives a medium coverage. It looks very natural and radiant on the skin.
