15 Mar Slicked- How To Stop A Shiny Face!
Firstly let me just say I don’t have oily skin….
And yet I still find my self needing to use an oil control product each day so my face doesn’t get too shiny.
This Sydney humidity is no doubt to blame for my recent shininess.
For me it’s a warmer month problem only, and it’s such a pain… but for you naturally oiler skinned gals it’s a problem you face all year round.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for a bit of shine on the cheeks, but anywhere near the center of my face and it just looks yuk!
Being a not so oily-skinned person meant I’d never really explored the world of oil control products. I basically just had one standard translucent powder in my drawer that I used when I needed. But lately (possibly because of the extra hot summer) the translucent powder just didn’t cut it. I’d apply it, and ten minutes later the shine was back.
That’s what got me searching for products that keep the shine away all day long.
There are some really amazing and innovative oil control products out there on the market.
Here is a list of some great products that worked well for me, and would also work year round for anyone with perpetually oily skin.
Benefit Agent Zero Shine ($52). This one is my handbag fav! An oil control powder with a built in brush that’s easy to use on the go, and keeps shine away all day! A quick dusting over the center of the face on top of your make-up works best.
note: Avoid the outer areas of the face (around the eyes in particular) as it will remove oil there too, and could make the skin look drier than you’d like.
Estee Lauder, The Mattifier Shine Control Perfecting Primer + Finisher ($50) is a brand new addition to the Estee Lauder range. This product is a great multi-tasker. It acts as your primer and as your oil control. Applied to clean skin before make-up it will create a silky smooth base and minimise the appearance of pores and fine lines. It will make your make-up look flawless and it absorbs oil throughout the day to keep the skin looking velvety matte all day long.
Beauty Blender Blotterazzi ($30) is one of my favourite oil control products for this very reason- it doesn’t apply anything to the skin. Instead, this unique little sponge is dabbed across shine prone areas and it expertly absorbs all the oil, leaving your skin matte and your make-up unmarked. We all know that applying layer after layer of powder to mattify will have an effect on the look of your make-up, so Blotterazzi is a great option to absorb oil when you’re out and about with no mess, and no fuss, and without effecting the look of your make-up. The Blotterazzi sponge is designed to effortlessly absorb excess oil and it comes in a handy little case which has a mirror inside.
Tarte Cosmetics Blot Party ($52) is an oil fighting duo in the one package. I love that Blot Party has both a mattifying powder and blotting papers all in one handy compact. Used together these two will give you maximum oil control all day long. Dust the amazonian clay mattifying powder over your finished make-up, and take the blotting papers with you for touch ups during the day. Too easy!
Urban Decay – De-Slick Oil Control Makeup Setting Spray ($49) A few spritzes of this micro fine mist will lock in your make-up for the day and stop you getting shiny. It will set your make-up to last all day long with just a few spritzes, and it’s so lightweight you can hardly feel it. It contains an advanced oil-control complex to banish shine and excess oil. It works well with any foundation, and if you team it with an oil-control primer it will leave you with perfect velvet matte skin all day, everyday.
