Important Winter Beauty Tips

I’d be the first person to admit that my approach to my skincare routine and makeup bag can be a little ‘extra’. I find it perfectly normal to use seven different products when washing my face every morning and will never find it normal to simply rinse with water and walk out the door.

That’s why, when Winter hits, completely making over my beauty routine is essential and all part of the quest to obtain and maintain healthy, glowing skin and on-trend beauty looks. Here’s what you should be considering if you want to overhaul your routine and fill it with Winter beauty essentials.

Swap your make up remover – It’s very common to experience sensitive skin over the Winter season due to the harsh weather and constantly jumping between windy days and heated rooms. Consider skipping a makeup removal product all together and instead try Sante By Enjo’s makeup removal pads. They’ll remove your makeup without any extra products so you can avoid causing sensitivity.

Consider a new cleanser – Cold and windy weather dries your skin out which can cause it to flake. Often as a result of the lack of humidity, your skin’s oil production will go into over drive to leave you with upset combination skin. If you nourish the skin with a hydrating cleanser it will help to balance your complexion while still being able to help exfoliate and give you control oil. Skinstitut’s L-Lactic Cleanser harnesses the power of AHAs but is still gentle enough to use every day without drying you out or irritating your skin.

Love your lips – Cracked and dry lips aren’t cute and make it hard to wear coloured or matte lipsticks, so over Winter swap to an intensively hydrating option like Guerlain’s Abeille Royale Honey Smile Lift. Many people will tell you it’s the little things in life that make you feel luxurious. When it comes to this lip treatment, they’re right. It’s a simple addition to your normal routine and can be used around the entire mouth area, including your nasolabial folds to keep your pout plump.

Up your exfoliation – Rid dry patches and flakes with an exfoliator that’s powerful but gentle. Physical exfoliants can be harsh on your skin at the best of times but definitely shouldn’t be used if you have any lifting or cracked skin. It can lead to further damage and even scarring. Try Paula’s Choice Weekly Retexturing Foaming Treatment 4% BHA. This leave on treatment uses salicylic acid that gets down deep into your pores to keep them clean and leave the surface of your skin smooth without over drying it.

Don’t forget your legs – You may not see your limbs underneath the layers of long sleeve sweaters and jeans but that doesn’t mean you can just leave them to do their thing. In fact, I recommend the exact opposite. Invest in a really thick and creamy body moisturiser like Kiehl’s Intensive Treatment and Moisturiser that you can slather on before bed and leave to soak in all night long. That way, your skin will be in perfect shape for fake tans and bikini weather when it eventually rolls around again.
