26 Oct How to Wear Red Eye Shadow
There’s a new trend in town and it isn’t for the lighthearted. Lately, red eye shadow has been making a statement on both the runway and the red carpet. It’s a bold trend that’s intimidating for even the most makeup savvy girl, but it’s surprisingly flattering and undeniably cool.
Red eye shadow is the perfect party look, especially for summer. Think of it as an edgier, modern update to a coral or peachy shade. Red is unexpectedly neutral with a huge range of different tones. Just like with red lipstick, there’s a variation to suit everyone.
As proof that red eye shadow is having a moment, Chanel’s latest FW16 makeup campaign features Kristen Stewart matching red eye shadow with red lips, resulting in a bold, vampy look. Kristen also wore the trend to the Cannes Film Festival this year, toning the lips down to a more neutral shade.
The trick to pulling off this look is to neutralise any redness around the eyes with concealer before applying eye shadow. Try Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Eden, which will colour correct and prep the eyelids. A single shade of red eye shadow blended across the eyelids is all you need. Other colours can become murky when mixed with red and the shade is bold enough on its own.
Simply apply lashings of mascara on your upper and lower lashes to finish the look. For a more gothic take on the trend, add a slick of liquid eyeliner above your upper lash line and use a black eyeliner pencil in your waterline. Another option is to dab a small amount of cherry tinted lip-gloss on your eyelids for dewy feel.
Trust me, this trend is going to be big. Make like Diane Lane in Ladies and Gentlemen and get on board.
