25 Oct Hair Trend: Finish with a Bow

Being someone who rotates between four hairstyles with little talent of achieving anything else, I’m always on the lookout for hair trends that are achievable by those of us that struggle to get a good top knot.

That’s probably why I got sucked into a Pinterest pinning hole for a good half an hour when I first saw this trend pop back up onto the fashion week runways. The simple art of finishing your hairstyle with a bow isn’t a new trend. In fact, I’m sure a good 80% of us (at least) could pull up a school photo from their primary school days that proves that we’ve been wearing bows for years. Personally, I wore a ribbon tied around my ponytail, braided into my hair, at the bottom of my plait and yes, even around the base of two pigtails sitting proudly atop my scalp.

Long gone are the thin, school coloured ribbons though. The feminine, poised and quintessentially French trend has been given a cool girl update with thick black and white ribbons being tied around a low pony the clear favourite way to wear the trend. Taking the trend one step further, bloggers and stylists have even been spotted tying a ribbon around their neck like a choker and finishing it around their pony with a bow. It’s certainly a more editorial look but chic none the less.

The best part about the resurgence of the bow is how simple and versatile the trend really is. It finishes off a low, messy and textured ponytail with ease and looks great twisted around a top knot. You don’t need any skill to give the trend a try and you’ll be quickly impressed by how polished it can make any outfit look.\

For a luxe evening take, a velvet bow adds a richness to the look and takes away the girly feeling. Pair it with a nude lip and exaggerated winged eyeliner for an easy to achieve look that will have you out the door tout de suite. You can find all sorts of ribbons at your local craft store that will allow you to choose something that fits your own personal style.
