09 Sep Choosing the Right Shade of Blush

Blush is one of the most underrated products of all time. Lightly applying colour to the apple of your cheeks should leave you with a natural flush that pulls your whole look together. When done right, it really is a game changer.

Sadly blush is often overlooked or feared by women who are afraid of overdoing it.

The right product can enhance your features and keep you from looking washed out. The wrong product can leave you looking like a life sized Raggedy Ann Doll.

Choosing the correct shade for your skin tone is key in keeping your look subtle and flattering.

To help you find the perfect shade, here are some tips on the best choices for fair, medium and dark skin tones:

Fair
Fair skin tones looks best in baby pink, peach, rose and any pinks that aren’t too warm. You want to stay away from any shades that are too orange. If you are prone to redness, make sure you use concealer on those areas so that the blush stands out on your cheeks.

Medium
You guys can pull off berry, apricot, rosey pinks and peachy shades. Avoid anything that’s too light or it might make your skin look ashy.

Recommended: Laura Mercier Bonne Mine Stick in ‘Pink Glow’; Clarins Multi Blush in ‘Peach’; Scout Cosmetics Mineral Blush in ‘Demure’

Dark
Don’t be afraid to experiment with brighter shades, which will give a beautiful pop of colour to your cheeks. Deep hues in burgundy, plum, burnt orange, tangerine, raspberry and fuchsia will look great. As with medium skin tones, be careful not to go too light in tone or you will look ashy.
