Blushes to Give You the Perfect Flush

In my opinion, blush would have to be one of the most under-rated beauty products. It’s a universally flattering product. With the right, blush can completely change your complexion and goes a long way in creating a healthy and youthful complexion.

With so many shades available these days, blush really has become just as customisable as eyeshadow in creating your makeup look. There’s the classic rosy pinks for a natural and pretty look, apricots and nudes work to add a freshness to bronzed make up looks and darker terracotta and wine shades add dimension to your cheeks and offer a softer contour option to use with highlighter.

Hot Tip: Your blush will typically fade quicker than the rest of your makeup so you should always over apply a little when you do your makeup or be prepared to do touch-ups.

LIQUID BLUSH

They’re perfect for dry skin types and complement dewy foundation but liquid blushes can be very fickle. If you don’t choose the right formula, they can be messy to apply, quickly rub off, or feel oily on your skin and make you unnecessarily shiny. Luckily, we’ve found a few formulas that sit nicely on your cheeks and offer a beautifully flushed colour.

Giorgio Armani Maestro Blush in 300

From the burnt terracotta to the silky formula and lightly glistening finish, Giorgio Armani’s cult liquid blush is an absolute winner. This is the longest wearing liquid blush I’ve tried and the colour only gets nicer as it soaks into your skin and blends with bronzer. You only need a small amount and I find it best to dab a bit onto the back of my hand and slowly build the colour on the apple of my cheek as it’s very pigmented.

Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer in 8

Although it’s technically a highlighter, the rosy pink colour of Armani Beauty’s iconic Fluid Sheer makes it a great liquid blush option. It leaves you looking incredibly luminous without looking sparkly and the fluid sits really well over foundation. It doesn’t slide or separate on the skin and is considerably long wearing for a highlighter. It’s a much softer blush than other options but perfect for those who just want a subtle flush of colour with maximum glow.

POWDER BLUSH

They’re the most classic type of blush and one mostly every girl has owned and used at some point. Powder blushes are great if you want a deliberately matte look, if you need more control in your application or if you want serious staying power. Unless you do want that matte look, I’d recommend looking out for powder blushes that contain highlighting or illuminating powder pigments for a youthful, glowing finish.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush

To say I’m obsessed with Hourglass powders is an understatement. From the glow factor to the staying power to the range of universally flattering tones, the blushes are my first choice for a powder blush. You can choose from the six colours the one that suits your skin tone best but as these powders build very nicely on your skin without looking cakey, you really can go for any of the colours and adjust the amount you put on to suit your look.

Nars Orgasm Blush

This blush is a cult product for a reason. Next year will be 20 years since its release and it’s remained one of the industry’s go-to colours ever since. When it says universally flattering, it means it, and the powder leaves you with a soft, iridescent peachy-pink sheen of colour. You can pick it up in everything from a cream stick to a lip balm but it’s the classic powder that offers a truly long-wear formula in the timeless shade.

CREAM BLUSH

Cream blushes are great multi-purpose products. The right shade creates a seamless hue across your cheeks, lips and eyes. They’re easy to apply and allow you to create that perfectly undone and natural look. Plus, you can get cream blushes in both a matte or dewy finish.

Kevyn Aucoin The Creamy Glow

If you’re familiar with Kevyn Aucoin’s products, you’d know that you can expect nothing but greatness. The cream blush is no different. It gives you a dewy, lightweight finish without feeling or looking greasy and blends nicely with a range of foundation finishes. Choose from a sheer glowing finish or build up the product for a more intense colour. My particular favourites are Tansoleil for a beachy peachy glow and Tresbelle for an edgy evening look.

Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for Lip & Cheek

Available in seven different shades, Bobbi Browns multitasking pot rouge is an incredibly creamy and hydrating formula that dries down leaving a naturally ‘stained’ finish. It’s best on freshly exfoliated cheeks and lips but lasts all day without separating or sliding off your skin.
